Trusting God When All Hope Seems Lost: 7 Keys

Life can bring loss, suffering, deep disappointments, etc., which can cause us to question where God stands in our pain. We may even find it difficult to see how trusting God could help us through such tough seasons.

But we serve a powerful, loving father who never tires or slumbers, so there is always hope! In this blog post, we’ll explore the keys to building your trust in God even when all hope seems lost. It will provide encouragement, comfort, and reminders so you’ll know that holding onto faith even when things look bleakest is worth it.

Here are the 7 Keys To Trusting God When All Hope Seems Lost

1. Understand That Difficult Times Are Inevitable

Understanding that tough times are inevitable helps you prepare mentally and spiritually when they come. The Bible tells us in John 16:33, “In this world, you will have trouble,” but it also says, “…take heart (have courage); I have overcome the world.” There is hope in knowing that God has already overcome the world through Jesus Christ and will help us overcome whatever trials we may face.

2. Remember God’s Promises

In times of struggle, it’s crucial to remember God’s promises. The Bible is full of His promises for us, such as “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5) and “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good…” (Romans 8:28). Write down these promises and keep them close to you, so when doubt creeps in, you can remind yourself of the truth.

3. Know That God Is With You On Your Journey

Trusting in God means believing He is with us every step of the way, no matter how difficult the journey may be. Even in our darkest moments, God is there to guide us and give us strength. Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Knowing that God is walking beside you will give you the assurance and courage to keep moving forward.

4. Pray

When we feel lost, it’s essential to pray and seek God’s guidance. He is always ready to listen and guide us through our struggles. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” There are several things you can pray for.

#1. For Strength To Get Through This Difficult Time.

Ask God for strength to get through your current situation. He will renew your spirit and give you the perseverance to keep going. In Neh. 6:9, Nehemiah prayed to God to strengthen his hands.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before You today seeking strength and well-being. I pray that You grant me the strength to power through this difficult time. May Your divine guidance show me the way, and Your loving-kindness be my comfort. I trust in Your promise to grant me strength when I am weary and uphold me when I am weak. You are my refuge and shield; I will not fear as You are with me. I surrender myself to you, Lord, secure in the knowledge that You have already overcome the world and carry my burdens.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

#2. For Wisdom And Guidance.

Pray for wisdom and guidance in navigating through your struggles. Ask God to show you His plan and purpose for your life, even during pain.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

I seek Your wisdom and guidance in this moment of uncertainty and confusion. Help me to see Your hand at work in my life. Grant me discernment to make decisions that align with Your will. Illuminate my path, Lord, and guide my steps. I place my trust in Your infinite wisdom, knowing that You have a plan for me, a plan to prosper me and not to harm me, a plan to give me hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Help me to trust in Your timing and not lean on my understanding. Thank You for Your steadfast love and unending guidance.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

#3. For Help.

Don’t be afraid to pray for help to come your way. You’ll need help from God and man. And however you look at it, God orders both types of help to come your way. Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” If you’ll find hope and get through trying times, help is a must-have!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I’m struggling and need Your help. I pray that You send Your angels to protect me as I go through this trying time. Grant me favor with the people I interact with and help them understand my situation. I trust in Your promise not to leave or forsake me, and I have faith that You will provide for all my needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Thank You for being my ever-present help in times of trouble.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

#4. Increase In Faith.

One of the primary goals of the devil is to quench your faith. The disciples prayed in Luke 17:5, “Increase our faith!” When you’re going through trials, praying that your faith will not fail is essential. For without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), and if you don’t stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all (Isaiah 7:9). It may seem like a small request, but our faith is what connects us to God and gives us the strength and hope we need.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

As I face this trial, I pray for an increase in my faith. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and trust that You have a good plan for my life. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and remind me that all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Help me believe in Your promises even when things seem impossible. Thank You for being a faithful God who never fails us.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

5. Connect With Others To Feel Supported

We were never meant to go through life alone. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Having others who understand your struggles and can pray with or for you is a huge flex.

Sometimes, we need someone outside of our circle to help us process and work through our emotions. Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Don’t be afraid to reach out to others.

6. Trust In God’s Plan

Above all, trust in God’s plan for your life. No matter how difficult things may seem, God has a purpose and a plan for us. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So, even amid trials, we can trust that God is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28).

7. Draw Strength From Scripture

Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of God’s word. Reading and meditating on scripture can bring you peace, comfort, and strength during difficult times. Psalm 119:28 says, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” So, when you’re feeling overwhelmed or discouraged, turn to the Bible for guidance and hope.

What To Pray When All Hope Is Lost?

When you feel like you have no hope left, pray to God. Pour your heart before Him and be honest about your feelings. Ask Him to restore your hope and fill you with His peace, joy, and strength.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before You today feeling hopeless and lost. I don’t know what to do or where to turn. But I know that You are the God of all hope (Romans 15:13) and that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37). So I ask that You fill me with Your hope, peace, and strength. Help me to trust in Your plan for my life and give me the courage to keep moving forward. Thank You for Your unending love and faithfulness.*

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Don’t lose hope in the face of trials and difficulties. Instead, pray to God and seek His wisdom, guidance, and strength. Connect with others who can offer support and encouragement, and trust in God’s plan for your life. Remember, even in the darkest of times, there is always hope in Christ.
