how does God want us to spend our time2

Time is crucial and of the essence. When it is lost or mismanaged, it is difficult to recover it back. And God desires that His children take out time to fellowship with Him and know His will for their life. God wants to lead you all through the days of your life, and how you can receive His leading by spending time with Him.

How do you spend time with God?

Time spent with God is a sacred one: a time you set apart to see, hear and do the things of God. So majorly, the things expected of you to do in these times are spiritual activities. So let’s see how you can spend time with God.

1. Prioritize your relationship with God

It’s no news that each of your days might be packed up with too many activities that you don’t even have time for spiritual engagement. However, as a believer, you must always stay agreeing with God. And receive His counsel for each day. Romans 8: 14 says, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. God has given you His Spirit to direct you in life, and you wouldn’t want to miss out on His instructions. Hence, you must learn to prioritize God above all. (Matthew 6: 33)

2. By studying and praying.

There is no greater way to spend time with God than to study God’s word and pray. This will heighten your spiritual sensitivity and discernment. That you understand and see God in every situation. You don’t just chicken out or give up easily when you know that God is with and for you.

Why is time spent with God important?

The importance of spending time with God can’t be overemphasized because is our creator. He made you and knows what’s best for you. He gave you a purpose, and you can’t effectively understand your purpose without him.

Myles Munroe says, and I quote, that when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. You begin to live your life outside the design of God if you don’t know his will for your life. Hence, you must spend quality time with Him to know His plan and purpose for your life.

1. Understanding of Purpose

In Jeremiah 29: 11, God says His thoughts towards you are good and not evil, to give you hope and a future. He has something God planned out for you, and the best way you can come to the knowledge of it is by fellowshipping with him.

2. Receiving God’s guidance

Proverbs 3:6 says, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. God wants to direct you and lead you on the path which you are to follow. And spending time with him is a way of acknowledging him.

3. Spiritual growth and stability.

Spiritual growth is the next stage to reach after receiving the life of Christ. And it is attained by spending time with God both through his word, prayer and fellowshipping with other saints. For It is God’s desire that you grow. (1 Peter 2: 2)

What is the meaning of redeeming the time in Ephesians 5:16?

It is important to note that when explaining the Bible, you don’t just lift out a verse and give it its meaning. That they should live as “children of light and reprove darkness”. And in verse 16, He told them to “redeem the time”. This means that they should make wise use of their time and not spend it on vain things, but rather on things that will bring praise and honor to God.
